For Children

Children in Shul

Supporting Jewish family life is a priority for us. We encourage you to bring your children to shul on Shabbat, where they meet and connect with friends. Our services are extremely child-friendly, with infants, toddlers, and children of all ages welcome in our sanctuary.

We integrate children into our services in ways that are appropriate to their ages, so that they can grow into prayer at their own pace, surrounded by adult role models. We also offer educational programming for children on Shabbat mornings, as well as babysitting..

Jewish Education in School and at Home

At The New Shul, we believe that children learn best when their education has a real-life context, framed by their family life, and, if possible, their school life. We do not have an afternoon/Sunday school, because it tends to lack that living context. Many of our parents send their children to nearby Jewish day schools -- the Pardes School, the King David School, or Jess Schwartz College Prep -- where Jewish learning is a natural part of the children's school day. Other parents choose to teach their children at home during the week, where Jewish learning is framed by their home life. For parents who choose to work with their children at home, we offer professional and peer support. The New Shul Home-School Network meets on a regular basis, and provides curricular materials and practical help. Please call or email for further information.
